The spiritual emergence of Saint Francis in Italian cultural and religious civilization is demonstrated by the extraordinary fortune that his image and the facts of his life had in art from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century.
Even in the history of music, the figure of the saint, from Lauda to Liszt's compositions, up to the works of P. Hindemith, G. F. Malipiero and S. Gubaidulina, is very present and has exerted an extraordinary influence
